Term 6

Term 6 began with a virtual trip to the Cornish seaside. Class One were lucky enough to have a zoom visit from Delia from the Cornish Plastic Pollution Coalition who talked to them all about the seaside and about the dangers of plastic pollution on our beaches and in the sea. The talk provoked some thoughtful discussions and some wonderful class work. The children produced posters and TV adverts to help prevent plastic pollution.

English - This term Class One are reading The Snail and the Whale, The Night Pirates and Hello Lighthouse. We have answered questions, labelled parts of a ship, acted out familiar scenes and written postcards from a seaside setting. We have also been learning all about pirates. The children have created wanted posters, role played applying for different jobs on board a pirate ship and written a message in a bottle. We have also made up our own lyrics to a sea shanty.

Topic - We have been inspired by the summer season to create some wonderful work this term. The children have enjoyed making leaf rubbings and prints, clay leaf imprints and have completed various seaside and summer themed artwork. We have learnt about seaside features and looked closely at lighthouses. We have planted lots of seeds and are eagerly waiting to see what grows!

Maths - This term Class One have been consolidating their learning about number bonds to 10 and 20. We have been using coins to make different amounts and have recapped our work on tens and ones. We have looked at position and direction and fractions of amounts. We have practised using a bar model, counted objects in twos, fives and tens and found one more, one less, ten more and ten less than a two digit number. We enjoyed making human sundials on the playground too!

During Creative Curriculum Week Class One made a video of themselves on board a pirate ship. Click the link below to watch, ARRRRHHHH!
