Pupil Premium

Funding

The Pupil Premium is an allowance allocated to schools for children of school age who are eligible for free school meals, to children whose parents serve in the armed forces,  to children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months (LAC) and to children post looked after children (PLAC).

At Kemsing we receive Pupil Premium for each pupil that is eligible for free school meals or a LAC or PLAC. In the year 2022-2023 the allocation is £1,385 per pupil or £2,410 for LAC/PLAC.

Principles

We aim to ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all our pupils. We ensure the appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups. This includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed. We recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged. In allocating Pupil Premium funding, our objective will be to ensure the most effective allocation of all resources available to ensure the best outcomes.

Provision

The Pupil Premium funding will be aimed at accelerating progress and moving children to at least age related expectations in English and Maths.

The range of provision for this group may include:

  • Providing resources for individuals or small group support: reading books; assessment materials
  • One to one support from experienced Teachers/SENco
  • Additional teaching and learning  opportunities provided through trained Teaching Assistant and external agencies
  • Funding opportunities for enrichment; for example; music lessons, extra-curricular provision, residential trips
  • Targeting able children on free school meals to achieve 'exceeding' in core areas of the curriculum

Reporting

It is the responsibility of the Headteacher, or a delegated member of staff, to produce regular reports for the Governor's Learning and Development team on:

  • The progress made by narrowing the gap, by year group, for pupils in receipt of free school meals and socially disadvantaged pupils.
  • An outline of the provision made since the last meeting
  • An evaluation of the cost effectiveness in terms of the progress made by the children
  • Governors will ensure there is an annual statement to parents on how the pupil premium has been used.

Impact of Pupil Premium: where possible the difference to the attainment of Pupil Premium children is quantified. Impact is also evaluated (using subjective criteria) through the professional judgement of members of staff; for example, developments in confidence, self belief, emotional intelligence, inter-personal skills and resilience.
