Term 5

Our topic this term is

'Oh! I Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside!'

Forest School Information

During term 5, Class One will be at Forest School for half a day every Wednesday. Please send children into school wearing a long sleeved top and long trousers. They will need to bring waterproofs and a uniform change in a bag. If your child does not have boots in school please send some in on the day. Children will need a healthy snack such as fruit, a cereal bar or raisins and a water bottle too please.

Class One are having lots of fun exploring our seaside topic this term!

In history we have been comparing the past and present at the seaside. In geography we have been looking at features of the seaside. In science we are continuing our learning about the seasons and finding out all about the weather.

Maths - Class One have been looking at measurement this term. We measured the length of a humpback whale and other creatures on the playground. We found out that a humpback whale is the same length as 13 Class One children! We have also been describing and comparing the mass of objects and have been solving practical problems with capacity.

Art - Class One have been working on their own seascapes inspired by JMW Turner. Turner was well known for painting while outdoors and explored new ways of painting that no one had tried before. The children experimented with string, cardboard and other materials to find ways to create their own wild and wonderful waves.

English - Our work this term is based on the books FlotsamThe Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch and The Snail and the Whale. We are writing captions, using adjectives in our descriptions, practising full stops and capital letters and writing an extended narrative.

Reading - We have been enjoying some outdoor reading time and fun in the spring sunshine.
