Term 5

Beside the Seaside!

Our Curriculum for Terms 5&6

In Science, we have observed and compared different seeds. We chose to sort them by colour, shape and size. We then chose which seeds we would like to plant. We found out what a seed needs to grow.  We are experimenting to see if any of our seeds will grow without light, soil, air and water. We carried out a fair test to see if all sunflowers would grow at the same. We have started to record what we have found out so far.

Class One have been working on different ways to represent numbers to 50. This week we have been counting in twos and fives.

We have been learning about the life and work of the artist JMW Turner. We are creating our own Turner inspired seascapes using different artistic techniques and materials to create shades and tones.

We have been looking at the book Flotsam as inspiration for drama and role play this week. We have been sequencing the story and writing an extended narrative using the illustrations to help us.

In Geography, we are looking at the human and physical features of the seaside. We have been discussing ways people might travel to the coast around the UK.

In history, we have been finding out what the seaside was like in the past. We have been discussing and researching what was different what is the same now. We have been looking at artefacts from the past to help us think about changes over time. We have also been looking at timelines of our own lives and those of other significant people.
