Term 1
Let's Explore!
This term our learning focuses on explorers - both past and present. We will learn about a range of explorers from history and will compare and evaluate their achievements and the impact they have had on today's world. We will begin the topic by considering what an explorer might looks like, and see if our ideas change at the end of the topic. We will discuss where we would like to explore and the future of human exploration.
We will use what we find out to carry out scientific experiments involving everyday materials and their properties, and to design and create moving vehicles in DT lessons.
In Maths we will revise and build upon our Year 1 learning, focusing mainly on Number and Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Money, 2D and 3D shapes. We will learn to solve problems involving these mathematical areas and develop our reasoning skills whilst using the correct mathematical vocabulary.
In English lessons we will continue to share stories and other texts. We will use these books to inspire our own writing, and begin to build our stamina for writing extended pieces for a range of audience - including stories, biographies, letters, diary entries and poems.
