A Typical Day in Class R

A typical day in Reception Class…

A day in Reception Class is never the same as the one before, but we have routines which we learn to help us become independent learners.

8.45am – We come into school with our book bags and water bottles. We hang up our coats and wash our hands.

9am – We sit on the carpet for the register and talk through the visual timetable of the day.

9.10am – Phonics. We learn new letters and sounds through songs and stories.

9.30am – Plan, Learn, Review. We choose our learning inside the classroom and in the outdoor area. We also have a Phonics activity of the day.

10.30am – Play time on the playground.

10.45am – We wash our hands and have snack time. Every day we have one piece of fruit from school.

11.00am – Maths. We learn lots of counting skills and practice writing numbers.

11.20am – Plan, Learn, Review. We choose our learning inside the classroom and in the outdoor area. We also have a Maths activity of the day.

12.00pm – Lunch time. We are eating our lunch in the classroom this year. We sit in our spaces and when we are finished we go out to play on the playground.

1.00pm – Afternoon register on the carpet.

1.10pm – Topic. We learn something new about our termly topic and discuss our ideas as a class.

1.30pm – Plan, Learn, Review. We choose our learning inside the classroom and in the outdoor area. We do arts and crafts related to our topic in the afternoon.

2.30pm – Afternoon play on the playground (sometimes we like to carry on learning and playing in the classroom instead!)

3.05pm – Home time!
