Class 5 2016-2017

Welcome to Year 5 with Mr Harvey and Mrs Wilson

Thank you for visiting the Class 5 page, here you can find information about many of the exciting things that are going on in our class.

In March we will be heading off on a Victorian-themed trip to Horton Kirby. We are all very much looking forward to this trip and I'm sure it will inspire the group to bring a bit of Victoriana into their lives (not the workhouse or 1800s sanitation of course!)

Currently we are plunging into the foetid backstreets of nineteenth-century London, escaping from Mr Sissons' workhouse and running wild in the Great Wen with Jim Jarvis as our guide ("Street Child"). We are trying to focus on improving spellings and teasing out greater detail in reading comprehensions this term whilst widening our active and passive vocabularies.

Homework and Spellings

New spellings and homework are set on a Wednesday. Homework is due in the following Monday and spelling tests occur every Tuesday afternoon. The spelling sound/pattern will be covered during the week in class.

Mr Harvey has issued a list of spellings for the year (21/10/16) - if parents wish to support their child with this list over the course of the year it would be very much appreciated.

A list of classic books to read has also been e-mailed to parents (Week Four of Term One).

PE and Pupil Belongings

PE (currently hockey/handball) will take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. The children need suitable outdoor games kit (jogging bottoms etc.), this includes trainers that have suitable grip to be worn for outdoor PE. Please ensure that every piece of uniform is labelled clearly with both forename and surname. Water bottles and lunch boxes should also be clearly labelled.

Topics in Year 5

Some of the exciting topics in Year 5 this year include The Ancient Greeks, Victorians and Mayans. Please have a look at the Creative Learning Journey below for more details.
