Maths at Kemsing

Maths at Kemsing is designed to encourage children to become proficient, resilient and enthusiastic mathematicians.  We aim to achieve this by:

  • Consistent planning and teaching for mastery from school-wide schemes of learning
  • Providing a clear learning sequence which builds on prior learning and the development of new skills, which are revisited frequently.
  • Developing number fluency through 'Mastering Number' and 'Fluency Boost' sessions and tasks
  • Ensuring every learner is challenged and is supported to make progress from their starting points
  • Using regular assessment strategies to ensure children are making progress and addressing gaps in learning quickly and effectively
  • Developing reasoning and problem-solving skills across the mathematics curriculum
  • Maintaining a purposeful, well-resourced and supportive learning environment
  • Motivating children to reach their potential and foster a love of maths
  • Nurture children's confidence when learning times tables through individualised challenges, including the 99 Club and Times Table Rockstars.
  • Making maths fun! White Rose Infinity is a great way for children to review prior learning, practise new skills and have fun.

Maths with Michael

Many parents feel nervous about helping children with their Maths at home, but White Rose has an amazing resource called "Maths with Michael" which could help. CBBC Presenter Michael Underwood and White Rose Maths have created some videos to guide parents in how certain concepts are taught in school. They're easy to watch and only take around 5-6 minutes each so definitely check them out!
