Our Federation Curriculum Intent

At the Darent Federation, our curriculum is designed to ensure that every child across both Sundridge & Brasted CE Primary School and Kemsing Primary School receives a rich, broad, and balanced education. We are committed to nurturing curious, creative, and confident learners who embody our shared federation values and are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Our curriculum:

  • Reflects our Federation vision and values,  through respect, compassion, and perseverance.

  • Is carefully sequenced to ensure that pupils build upon prior knowledge and skills.

  • Promotes a love of learning through vibrant, engaging, and inclusive experiences.

Our Curriculum Implementation

We deliver our curriculum through well-planned and well sequenced schemes of learning that bring subjects to life and make learning meaningful for all children.

Teachers adapt plans to meet the needs of every learner, ensuring all pupils, including those with SEND, is able to access and succeed within the curriculum.

  • English: The Literacy Tree – a text-based approach where high-quality literature inspires writing, comprehension, and vocabulary development.

  • Mathematics: White Rose Maths – a mastery approach that develops fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills for all pupils.

  • Science, Geography, History, French, and Design & Technology: KAPOW Primary – providing engaging, progressive, and creative learning sequences.

Our Curriculum Impact

We regularly assess the impact of our curriculum through:

  • Ongoing formative and summative assessments across subjects.

  • Pupil voice and engagement levels.

  • Subject leader monitoring and evaluation.

  • Evidence of progression in pupils’ books and outcomes.

Our children leave our schools as motivated, confident learners, well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Inclusion and Accessibility

Our curriculum is fully inclusive. Adaptations are made so that pupils with additional needs can access high-quality teaching and make strong progress.

We draw on specialist expertise, including speech and language interventions, ELSA support, and targeted learning groups, to ensure equity for all learners.

Enrichment and Wider Opportunities

Learning at our schools extends far beyond the classroom.

Children enjoy:

  • Educational visits, workshops, and visitors to bring learning alive.

  • Sports competitions, community events, and performances.

  • Leadership roles such as Sports Leaders, Playground Monitors, Library Monitors, Worship Monitors and Nurture Ninjas.

  • Forest School sessions and outdoor learning that develop resilience and teamwork.
