Children learn when they feel happy, secure and confident. In Reception I place great emphasis on creating a stimulating and happy environment. In our outdoor space we have a small wooded area where the children can dig and explore. There is a slide, playhouse, blackboard, sand and water play, large bricks, balls and scooters. In the classroom we have construction toys, paint and collage materials, many games and educational toys as well as a computer and interactive whiteboard. During a typical day there will be a balance of teacher directed activities and child initiated play. You can see an example of one of our Creative Learning Journeys here.
It is very rewarding for me, as their reception teacher, to see the children develop in all areas of the foundation stage so that by the end of the year they move from reception to Year 1 with confidence. |
